ABOUT

  • At a cost of $4.1 million dollars, this home was the largest in the 2005 Street of Dreams just south of Portland, OR.

  • We worked directly with the landscaper hired by the builder

  • We were asked to design the hardscape layout in most areas and specify the plants to meet a minimal budget of $70,000 for 1-1/2 acres on a nearly 3 acre site. At the last minute, the owner asked us to add more.

  • The remainder of the site was to be seeded with wildflowers after the landscape contractor cleared the existing brush

  • A water feature at the front was to be added, but had to be safe for children

PROJECT GOALS

  • Create a garden that suited the blended Northwest and Italian styles on the house.
  • Create a child-safe water feature near the entry of the home.

  • Provide four-season interest with plants.

  • Accommodate the owner's boat past the house into the entry court.

  • Create a side yard for the dogs that would also be attractive.

  • Provide a grand entry near the front door, while working around the access issues into the auto court, including a boat trailer

DESIGN CONCEPTS

  • A narrow rill water feature provided the sound of water at the entry.
  • Bold flower and foliage colors provide color and interest for a show home and a lived in garden afterwards.

  • The colored concrete entry contains a planter to soften the extensive amount of hardscape required for vehicles to navigate their way into the auto court

  • The side yard for the dogs was located just off the special room just for the dogs care

  • Bold pots were added in several locations to add softness and color

  • Drought-tolerant and native plants were used farther out from the house
