ASK A DESIGNER

BEFORE YOU HIRE, ASK QUESTIONS.
WE WANT TO MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

  1. How are you different from a landscape architect?
  2. What services do your offer? (see our services page)
  3. How much experience do you have and how many years have you been in business?
  4. Are you design-only, design-build, or full service & why should that make a difference?
  5. Ask to see examples of the designer's work.(see our portfolio)
  6. Do you offer consultations?
  7. What is your process?
  8. What do you charge?
  9. How will you help us with our budget?
  10. How long does installation take?
  11. How long does it take new plants to grow in?
  12. What kind of maintenance can we expect?
  13. Do you have a display garden that we can visit to get ideas?

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
ABOUT VANESSA

Vanessa did a great deal of research to design
a garden for our challenging micro-climate --
salt air, raging winds and hungry elk.
The result is breath taking.
Bonnie Delaney, Gearhart, OR

She is professional, knowledgeable
beyond compare and someone who
truly puts her heart and soul into her projects.
Bernice Skoro, Portland, OR

Vanessa is an extraordinary person
and a joy to work with. She listens
to her clients and the result is that
each job is an individual accomplishment,
unlike some whose projects all look alike!

Sharri LaPierre, Vancouver, WA

"My garden really is good all year long, but spring
and summer are just breathtaking. I walk the yard
everyday to see the changes that happen."
Teresa, Vancouver, WA

MICHAEL DIRR
VANESSA SPEAKS
Learn why world-famous horticulturist, Dr. Michael Dirr, exclaimed...

RAVINE VIEW
THE RAVINE PROJECT

What one friend and exceptionally knowledgeable gardener says about this project:

"I’ve said it before and will say again: I am so, SO impressed with this project. And not just the scale of it (which is immense), nor even that it’s an ambitious undertaking for anyone not to mention someone who *might* be a couple decades or so my senior. The thing that really strikes me is that it’s a beautiful example of land stewardship of a sensitive riparian area. It is abundantly clear to me that, through this process, this ravine will ultimately be not just more beautiful and accessible to humans, but it will also be more ecologically viable, productive and habitable for many, many other species of all kingdoms. Erosion control, soil health, water management, habitat and food availability, biodiversity, noxious/invasive species reduction, climate- and biome-appropriate plant selection, and of course, beautiful and informed design: it’s ALL there.

While not all of us have the opportunity to do a project on this scale, everyone who gardens at all can take inspiration from the underlying ethos. ♥"
